Sun in Libra – Focus on Partners

Transit September 23rd – October 22nd 2014 Our Sun moves into the sign of Libra, known as the “Two Lovers” Libra concerns partnerships, balance, and our connections to others; those connections that bring us closer to a connection with The Universe. The Sun loves being here (for the most part), as our days are filled with enjoyable conversations, pleasant encounters, and love and beauty that autumn brings.

This time of year is a joyous reminder of the color and vibrancy of our natural environment- coinciding with the Autumn Equinox; the Sun’s transit shifts, marking a the turning point of the end to the summer’s light, and beginning toward winter. This is a cardinal point of balance for both parts of the year- which is seen in symbology of Libra: light and dark. Heindel explains how Astrology sees this natural duality: of light (joy and happiness) and dark (time and hard work).

“Libra is the sign where the Sun changes from the northern to the southern hemisphere; it crosses the equator there, and consequently the Sun is very weak at that point. It is the great life-giver going down into the dark winter months, and therefore Saturn, the planet of darkness, is exalted in Libra. Thus we find two natures very markedly expressed in children that are born under this sign; one is of the Sun which is cheerful and optimistic, the other is that of Saturn, which is morose and melancholy.”

– Max Heindel Message of the Stars “The Children of Libra”

Traditionally as the story goes Sun here is the enthralled lover, joyfully playing his flute at his wedding day; the happiest day of his life; where he solidifies one of his most important relationships; his marriage to his true love. Whom he undoubtedly spent his entire life searching for – but onlookers do not see the imperfections in their relationship, or the pain it took to reach this point. This pressure for “the one” emphasizes an enormous importance on relationships, often oversimplifying “happily ever after”- when in reality a relationship is balance of serendipity yes, but also much hard work needed to make the relationship last.

Libras work tirelessly for their partner, or for the other most important relationship in life: their parents. They are a mediator between the mother and the father’s problems, during childhood they are seen as a personal confidant to their parents- rather than a child, obligated to both partners, trying to help make peace.

At its best Sun in Libra emphases relationships, good times, and the connections with others that make our life worth living The Sun helps us grow our connections with others, as we are considerate for others’ needs, ready to help, or just show some love. We love friends, reconnecting with old friends, conversations, hosting parties, playing music, dancing – this is an excellent time to get married or renew your vows, as Venus rules Libra: love is integral to this Libra time of year.

As the Sun shines through this sign it highlights the importance of the senses; great smells, sensuous tastes, sweet music, and intelligent beauty. We love luxury and other fine things, our bodies are an expression of art, and our clothes are our medium. We love art, photography, and incorporating the senses into our home.

Sun here is smart, excellent with numbers, fast moving, and can see connections at the speed of light, often psychic, picking up on signals of the universe, and connections across the globe. Libra –an air sign, excels at communication, meetings, networking, signing or music, and other oratory related tasks, you may just find yourself so happy that you can’t help but humming a tune. Just be careful for the propensity to talk too much, and engage in petty gossip over drama.

Some might say Libra should not engage in strenuous physical labor, and it is true - now is a time to work smarter not harder. We are drawn to prominent partners, a teacher, coworker, role model to help us succeed, by teaming up, we can accomplish much more than on our own.

When Sun in Libra is negatively afflicted we have a painstaking time making decisions; trying to commit to one side of the coin, when we perpetually contemplate the benefits (or negatives) of both options. We may boast of our connections, as we deem our personal value based upon the connections we hold. We may become cranky, depressed, at the behest of Saturn, melancholy, doubtful, and worrisome of the loyalty of our partner, and their trustworthiness. There may be family bouts, where someone’s big mouth surely stews up drama.

We may be thwarted in our daily tasks, met with opposition from enemies we may have not known existed. We may be lustrous toward money, bombastic in our meaningless achievements, when in truth, we are scared of our own weaknesses.

Libras exist in a state of perpetual balance; the give and take that occurs there in, they often revel in indecision, painstakingly searching for whole hearted assurance, or some form of confirmation for their decisions. Libra is also the balance within; between the self and our relationships, all too frequently negating the self for the betterment of others. When so much emphasis is placed on others it is easy for the moral compass to go awry. In the balance of light and dark within a relationship, notice that relationships can cause bring out the worst in people, sometimes in the battle for the heart there are no limits to deception.

This is a time were we focus on our relationships. Perhaps most importantly our relationship with “the self”, take some time to have a conversation. It may be easy to lose sight of yourself, and what you really value when others are involved. It is important to address issues honestly and head on, avoiding overly optimistic or adversely pessimistic pitfalls.

How have you been non-confrontational in your life, or passive in your relationship? Are you waiting for someone to make a move? What do you demand from yourself, and how do you expect that from you partner? Are there incongruities in what you expect and how you act in your relationship?

How are you embracing the good of the universe through your devotion to your partner? How can you better stand up for what makes you happy in life? Because isn’t that what life is all about?

Much love!

Instead of asking somebody to marry you, frantically ask them, “Will you hide this tomato for me?” and then hand them a small one. If they do a good job hiding it, it means that they truly care about you and that’s better than marriage could ever be.
